LANSING, Mich. — Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D–Flint) issued the following statement after the announcement of two Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) grants in Flint. The MSF approved a $4.35 million performance-based grant for Lear Corporation to build a new full-sized truck automotive seating manufacturing facility in Flint. The MSF also approved a $300,000 grant to the Evergreen Community Development Initiative (ECDI) for its literacy program to support talent development in Flint.

“Those of us in Flint know that our community is worth investing in and we’re excited to see Lear building a huge truck seating manufacturing plant right here in the city. Having Lear in the neighborhood will mean hundreds of new, quality jobs prioritized for Flint residents, ensuring that more folks in my town will have the opportunity to get a leg up.

“As more and more companies look to grow their businesses in Flint, we have to do all we can to make sure people are prepared to enter the workforce. By investing $300,000 in the ECDI literacy program, we’re making a concerted effort to set people up for success at work. These investments are welcome news for Flint, and I know the whole city will benefit from the economic boost.”
