LANSING, Mich. — Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D–Flint) issued the following statement in response to the announcement of a $1.5 million grant from the Michigan Strategic Fund to 550 Bears, Inc. and Uptown Reinvestment Corporation, Inc. to redevelop the F. W. Woolworth building in downtown Flint:

“What makes this grant especially meaningful is that it will create a space for Mott students to come downtown and learn hands-on, professional culinary skills, setting them up to be leaders in their future professions. I’d like to thank the Michigan Strategic Fund board for approving this grant and 550 Bears and Uptown Reinvestment Corporation for rehabilitating the historic F.W. Woolworth building.

“This expansion of the Mott campus will bring a new energy to our downtown. Investors can clearly see the potential here, and we welcome them with open arms. I want everyone to know that Flint is open for business.”
