LANSING, Mich. – Crescentwood Elementary School in the East Detroit School District has been chosen as one of four $500 media center grant winners by Delta Dental of Michigan.

During the month of March, legislators were encouraged to submit a photo of them reading a book provided by Delta Dental to a classroom in their district for a chance to win a $500 grant to purchase books or technology for the school’s media center. Senator Steve Bieda (D–Warren) visited multiple schools in his district last month and was honored to learn that the Delta Dental grant would be awarded to Crescentwood Elementary.

“It is very important to promote daily reading and good oral hygiene to our youth,” said Senator Bieda. “I was very happy to learn that Crescentwood Elementary was the winner of the Delta Dental grant. Each year I entirely enjoy going into schools and reading. The children’s enthusiasm is uplifting. I know Crescentwood’s students will benefit greatly with this grant.”

“Delta Dental is very proud to partner with our legislators and local schools to increase awareness of the importance of good oral health and daily reading,” said Teri Battaglieri, Director of Communications, Corporate Citizenship and Philanthropy at Delta Dental. “Children and parents should remember 2 x 2 + 20: Brush for two minutes twice a day, and read for 20 minutes daily for a healthy body and mind. “

Senator Bieda will be presenting the check along with Delta Dental to Crescentwood Elementary on May 1st at 2:00 p.m. at the school. The media is invited to attend.
