LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Steve Bieda (D–Warren) issued the following statement today after the Senate unanimously passed Senate Bills 609-615, 624 and 625, which would end the Driver Responsibility Fee Program, begin debt forgiveness and restore a driver’s license to those who were unable to pay their fines:

“These fees were a money grab when they passed, and I strongly supported their elimination just as I opposed their passage during my time in the House of Representatives. The phasing out of driver responsibility fees will help drivers start with a clean slate and stop keeping them in a cycle of poverty.”
