LANSING–Senator Vincent Gregory (D–Southfield) has been named as the lead Democrat on the Michigan Senate Appropriations Committee that makes budget decisions for the state.

“From our kids to our working families to our seniors, the state budget process affects every single Michigan resident, and I am honored to serve in this role,” said Senator Gregory. “We have a significant responsibility to tackle the anticipated budget deficit and manage any department changes while protecting the services Michiganders depend on.”

Gregory has also been appointed as the Minority Vice Chair of the Capital Outlay Appropriations Subcommittee and is a member of the Department of Corrections and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittees. In setting the budget for the Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS), Gregory will have a say in the Governor’s proposed merger of DHS and the Department of Community Health (DCH).

Senator Gregory has also been named to several other legislative roles for the 98th Legislature. He is on the Legislative Retirement Board of Trustees and the Senate Fiscal Agency Governing Board, has been named Assistant Minority Caucus Chair for the Senate Democratic Caucus. Senator Gregory was also elected from among his peers to serve as the Historian for the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus (MLBC).
