LANSING — Senator Curtis Hertel, Jr. (D-Meridian Township) issued the following statement in response to the Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference’s revenue shortfall announcement:

“For many years, Republican budgets have been built on a fantasy. We continue to over promise and under deliver for the Michigan people. When we cannot plan for the next year, we cannot solve any of Michigan’s pressing problems.

“The volatility of our corporate income tax structure makes it difficult to predict a positive financial future for Michigan. And that tax structure is a direct result of Republican policies that put the interests of businesses above people.

“This should be a wake-up call. We need to make long-term investments in our infrastructure and our kids, which is impossible without a predictable revenue stream.”
