LANSING, Mich., April 26, 2018 — Sen. Curtis Hertel, Jr. (D–East Lansing) will host a ceremony to unveil a traffic sign that renames a portion of Highway M-52 in Stockbridge Township as “Deputy Grant Whitaker Memorial Highway.”

The ceremony will take place on Friday, April 27, at 3 p.m. at the northbound sign where M-52 intersects M-106 in Stockbridge. Sheriff Wriggelsworth will also commemorate the event by renaming April 27th as Deputy Whitaker Day in his honor.

WHERE: Northbound sign located at the intersection of M-52 and M-106 in Stockbridge

Deputy Grant Whitaker Memorial Highway will extend from the intersection of M-52 and M-106 to the intersection of M-52 and M-36, to honor Whitaker, who was killed in the line of duty on Dec. 7, 2014, while pursuing a fleeing driver. The driver was arrested, convicted of eluding police and driving on a suspended license, and sentenced to prison.
