LANSING, Mich. — State Senator Morris W. Hood III (D–Detroit) issued the following statement regarding the Michigan House Republicans’ proposed plan to fix the Detroit Public School system:

“I’m disappointed that House Republicans are using the Detroit Public School system’s problems as an opportunity to attack teachers by undermining their benefits and compensation. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — our teachers are heroes for what they put up with. If we really want to help Detroit children succeed, we need to put aside the anti-teacher, anti-union rhetoric and start listening to the teachers, students and parents in the community.”
