LANSING, Mich. — Senator David Knezek (D–Dearborn Heights) issued the following statement following the U.S. Senate vote to advance the Republican health care bill:

“More than 400,000 U.S. veterans, and an estimated 8,000 in Michigan alone, stand to lose their Medicaid coverage by 2026 under the Republicans’ plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. We’re talking about taking away critical coverage from the very people who have put their lives on the line for this country and our freedom, and who have pre-existing conditions and disabilities from their service for which they absolutely need health care coverage. Our American veterans and their families deserve the best possible health care coverage, and not just a sham of a so-called plan.”
