LANSING, Mich. — Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D-Flint) on the Senate’s action today on a bill that would provide resources for a credit for Flint water customers. It did not include an amendment that he offered to provide more funding, or another one that would have supplied resources to expand WIC programs:
“While I appreciate the fact that the Michigan Senate is acting with urgency, they need to listen to local leaders. Flint’s Mayor Weaver has told us that the city will need significantly more funding for this part of the problem, so we should listen and act.
“Customers should be fully refunded for the financial burdens that they continue to suffer because we know the water is not safe. No customer would expect only a partial refund for a product that was unfit for use, and that actually poisoned them, so why should Flint residents? I keep hearing these are first steps and more action is coming, so I will continue to hold them accountable to keep these promises.”
