Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich on Confirmation Hearing for Heidi Grether at MDEQ

LANSING, Mich. — Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D–Flint) issued the following statement on today’s confirmation hearing about Heidi Grether’s appointment to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality:

“I attended today’s hearing because the failings at the MDEQ had a devastating effect on my community. My hope was to hear more concrete details about the reforms necessary to fix what went wrong in the Flint Water Crisis and to ensure it never happens anywhere else, ever again. The committee missed an opportunity to send a message today by not taking a vote, and it appears the full Senate may make the same mistake. Holding this department — and this director — accountable must be a top priority for the legislature. I know it will be for me.”
