Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich: UIA Fraud Repayment Not Enough

LANSING, Mich. — Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D–Flint) issued the following statement in response to reports that the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency made over 48,000 wrongful fraud accusations and will be refunding $20.8 million to claimants:

“I’m not going to be patting anyone on the back for this one. My office has been hearing from wronged constituents for almost four years, and Democrats have been consistently putting pressure on the state to make this right. Families went into bankruptcy, marriages were ruined, and properties were lost because residents, by no fault of their own, were robbed by the Snyder administration. Governing is about people, not profits, but it doesn’t seem that this disastrous administration will ever understand that.”
