Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich on bills to jeopardize firefighter and police retirement

LANSING, Mich. — Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D–Flint) issued the following statement in response to the latest package of Republican bills that put municipal employee retirement benefits at risk:

“Lansing Republicans are looking to round off a year of attacking working folks by targeting those who keep our families safe — firefighters and police. Stealing straight from the Washington playbook, they are pushing this reckless package through the process so that first responders’ retirement and health care can be jeopardized just in time for Christmas. What’s more is these bills hold the threat of emergency management over the heads of community leaders. I can’t imagine that there is anyone out there clamoring for more Lansing regulations in their hometown, but I’d be happy to tell them a story about what happens when emergency management goes bad.”
