Sen. Ananich on Gov. Snyder Lowballing Road Repairs

LANSING, Mich. – Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D-Flint) today issued the following statement after Gov. Snyder signed legislation to put $175M into roads:

“Anyone who has driven on our roads knows that $5,000 for Wolverine or $17,000 for Clio is more like an insult than a solution to actually repair our broken roads. Sending a few thousand extra bucks to a city that is riddled with potholes will not even begin to cover what’s really needed to get our roads in safe, drivable condition.

“Republicans have held the gavel for seven years, but can only come up with a mere Band-Aid for a crisis that happened on their watch. Not to mention they’re taxing folks more at the pump and on registrations while failing to fix the problem. Democrats proposed measures to pull additional funds from the rainy day reserves and help people repair their damaged vehicles, but Republicans still refuse to put real money behind a problem that affects every person in our state.”
