Sen. Ananich on Senate Republicans vote to protect polluters

LANSING, Mich. – Today, Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D-Flint) issued the following statement after the Senate voted on House Concurrent Resolution 1, which passed on a party line vote. The resolution disapproves Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Executive Order 2019-02, which would protect the environment by restructuring the state’s environmental quality arm.

“After all of the environmental catastrophes we’ve suffered during the last eight years, we should be relieved that our governor has real plans to keep our water safe, not fighting back at every opportunity. It’s fitting that Republicans took this vote on Valentine’s Day, sending a big love letter to corporations that want to have free reign to pollute our waters. The legislature is the steward of the Great Lakes – not the ‘Average Lakes’ – and we won’t back down from the fight to protect them.”
