Sen. Ananich on open carry ban at polling locations

LANSING, Mich. – Today, Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D-Flint) issued the following statement after Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson issued guidance confirming that open carry of firearms will not be permitted at polling locations on Election Day:

“Physical intimidation has no place in our country’s proud tradition of peaceful elections. The traumatic events of the past week have made us all aware that there are criminals out there who wish to use weapons and violence to achieve their political agenda. In America, we change our government at the ballot box, and no one should feel endangered as they make their voice heard. I’m glad to see Secretary Benson make this abundantly clear, so that all voters are aware of the rules before heading to the polls on November 3.”
