(April 16, 2026)\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Today,\u00a0the Senate Appropriations Committee, chaired by\u00a0Sen.<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>Sarah Anthony<\/b>\u00a0(D-Lansing), passed the first round of\u00a0appropriations bills for several state departments,\u00a0keeping\u00a0Senate Dems\u00a0on track to deliver\u00a0a\u00a02027 state budget\u00a0on time that addresses the needs of Michigan families and communities.\u00a0Upon\u00a0committee\u00a0passage of these budget bills today, Sen.<span>\u00a0<\/span><b>Anthony<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>issued the following statement:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenate Dems are ready to\u00a0take on any challenges to\u00a0deliver another\u00a0meaningful\u00a0budget<span>\u00a0<\/span><i>on time<\/i> that invests in our people, programs, and all the places we call home here in Michigan. Today\u2019s passage of the first slate of budget bills shows we are on track to do exactly that \u2014 just as we have in the previous three years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith everyday costs at an all-time high and\u00a0federal\u00a0decisions\u00a0continuing to\u00a0wreak havoc on\u00a0residents\u00a0statewide,\u00a0Michiganders are counting on us to\u00a0craft\u00a0a state budget that\u00a0cuts through the chaos and\u00a0provides\u00a0the<span>\u00a0<\/span><i>real<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>relief they deserve. From expanding access to scholarship programs, protecting our cherished natural resources, and taking steps to lower auto insurance and utility costs for Michiganders, we\u2019ve taken a solid first step today \u2014 but we\u2019ve got more work to do. As we continue to buckle down in the days ahead on solutions to lower costs and safeguard residents, Senate Democrats remain ready to negotiate a balanced, bipartisan budget that puts the people of Michigan first \u2014 and I hope House Republicans will do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bills passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee today set the 2027 fiscal year state budgets for the departments of Agriculture and Rural Development; Natural Resources; Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy; Transportation; Licensing and Regulatory Affairs; Insurance and Financial Services; those overseeing universities and community colleges, and the Natural Resources Trust Fund.
