Bayer on school breakfast funding in supplemental bill

LANSING — Sen. Rosemary Bayer (D-Beverly Hills) has issued the following statement after the Michigan Senate passed legislation to provide funding for Better with Breakfast, an Oakland County effort to provide children with the nutrition they need to perform at school:

“I am thrilled the Better with Breakfast Program will receive $500,000 in funding for its operations. There are more than 7,300 children in Oakland County who struggle with hunger each day, making this funding critical and necessary given it will be matched by the county to leverage up to $12 million in federal funds. Our kids can’t learn if they are hungry, and I am so glad this money will be used to help feed them.”
