LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Rosemary Bayer (D-Beverly Hills), who serves on the Michigan Nursing Homes COVID-19 Preparedness Task Force, has issued the following statement on the recommendations developed for the care of residents in long-term facilities during the coronavirus pandemic:

“For the last several weeks, members of the Governor’s Nursing Home COVID-19 Preparedness Task Force have been listening to experts, stakeholders, and family members across the state. We heard stories about the impact of isolation on the elderly and were presented with data from experts so that we could create new recommendations designed to keep Michiganders in senior living facilities healthy, happy, and safe.

“As a member of the Task Force’s Quality of Life subcommittee, I strongly support these guidelines. Our seniors and vulnerable populations living in nursing homes and care facilities deserve the best we can give to them. I believe these recommendations will keep them safe during this pandemic and allow them an enhanced quality of life. We can do both, and we must.”
