LANSING, Mich. (Aug. 19, 2022) — Sen. Rosemary Bayer (D-Beverly Hills) issued the following statement after Oakland County Judge Jacob Cunningham issued a ruling on the case of Whitmer v. Linderman this morning and granted a preliminary injunction that would continue to block enforcement of Michigan’s 1931 abortion ban:

“Hope is still alive when it comes to the protection of health care rights of women and anyone who can get pregnant. The decision Judge Cunningham made to grant a preliminary injunction to continue to prevent Michigan’s archaic 1931 abortion ban from going into effect is a heartening development. While there is more work we must do as legislators to ensure that these rights are protected for generations to come, today’s decision sets the foundation for continued progress in our state — that we know most Michiganders want and deserve.”
