LANSING — State Sen. Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) issued the following statement on the passage of Senate Bill 1, which changes Michigan’s auto no-fault insurance system:

“On the surface, Senate Bill 1 might seem like it saves consumers money. But, in reality, this legislation puts the safety and security of all Michigan drivers at risk and falls short of savings on their insurance bills. This legislation was rushed through the process without giving the people and families of our state a chance to weigh in on how these changes could affect them.

“We need a real solution — one that puts drivers first, protects the Michiganders we represent and delivers long-overdue rate reductions for every consumer. Senate Bill 1 is not a real solution.”
