LANSING — Today, Sen. Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) voted in support of a supplemental appropriations bill that would provide $1 million for community programs at the United Methodist Community House (UMCH) in Grand Rapids.

“The United Methodist Community House is a vital resource to the greater Grand Rapids area, which is why it was so important to me they receive funding to continue doing their incredible work,” Sen. Brinks said. “The UMCH is a prime example of what makes the 29th Senate District great. This funding will equip them with resources to serve generations of Grand Rapidians, young and old, for many more generations to come. When the community comes together for one another, it fosters understanding, respect for others, and relationship-building. I am eager to see what the future has in store for the UMCH and I am thankful to my colleagues who worked with me to ensure that UMCH was included in the supplemental appropriations bill.”

The funding will be used for a public-private partnership for construction of an Early Childhood Education and Senior Activity Center in Grand Rapids that will provide childcare for 240 infants/toddlers and daily activities for more than 500 seniors.

Founded in 1902, the UMCH offers comprehensive community support through targeted programming for children, youth, adults, and seniors.
