GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Jan. 27, 2021) — Sen. Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids), the ranking Democrat on the Senate Health Policy and Human Services Committee, released the following statement after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 3rd State of the State address:

“I was pleased to see Gov. Whitmer focus on a bold recovery plan and I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues to prioritize vaccinations to get people back to work and students into the classroom.

“As a proud member of the Prescription Drug Task Force, I was also pleased to hear Governor Whitmer’s interest in seeing our recommendations become law. Affordable, accessible prescription drugs are a key component to our overall public health efforts in Michigan. We cannot move forward as a society without first addressing the fact that there are people struggling to decide between medications or putting food on the table for their families each month.

“As always, I’m a big proponent of investments in education and green infrastructure which will open up more employment opportunities for Michiganders.

“It is my greatest hope that my colleagues in the legislature can find common ground this year on behalf of the voters who sent us here to work together.”
