Legislation\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>establish<\/span>\u00a0Prescription Drug Affordability Board in Michigan has widespread support<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>LANSING, Mich. (<\/span>Oct<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>04<\/span>, 2023)\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u2014\u00a0<\/span>Today, the Michigan Senate passed Senate Bills<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>483<\/span><\/span><\/a>–<\/span><\/span>485<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0The bills, sponsored by\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Sens<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Darrin Camilleri<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(D-Trenton),\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Kristen McDonald Rive<\/strong>t\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(D-Bay City) and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Veronica\u00a0<\/span>Klinefelt<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0(<\/span>D-Eastpointe<\/span>), will create an independent Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) in Michigan<\/span>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>s well as<\/span>\u00a0ensure medical service providers, insurance companies and\u00a0<\/span>Medicaid<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>comply<\/span>\u00a0with the new legislation \u2014<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to help lower prescription drug costs for all consumers.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cToo many people in our state are having to choose between affording food and the medication they need. This is an issue\u00a0<\/span>that’s<\/span>\u00a0only getting worse, and\u00a0<\/span>it’s<\/span>\u00a0time to act,\u201d said Sen.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Camilleri<\/span><\/span><\/strong>. \u201cWith today’s passage in the Senate, we’re one critical step closer to establishing a Prescription Drug Affordability Board and ensuring equitable access to vital medications for every Michigander.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

With the ability to set Upper Payment Limits on the most<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>expensive prescription drugs,<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>PDAB will play a cr<\/span>itical<\/span>\u00a0role in\u00a0<\/span>identifying<\/span>\u00a0cost-saving opportunities<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>The Board would bring accountability,\u00a0<\/span>oversight<\/span>\u00a0and transparency to the prescription drug industry.\u00a0<\/span>Its recommendations will serve as a valuable resource for\u00a0<\/span>residents, patients, medical\u00a0<\/span>professionals<\/span>\u00a0and policy<\/span>makers<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cToo many Michiganders are priced out of their own health,\u201d said Senate Majority Leader\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Winnie Brinks<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(D-Grand Rapids). \u201cIt can be challenging enough to deal with a life-changing diagnosis and adding enormous medication bills on top of that stress can be unbearable. Today,\u00a0<\/span>we\u2019re<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>taking action to change<\/span>\u00a0that. The Prescription Drug Affordability Board can make the system work better for everyone and reduce financial barriers to wellness.\u00a0<\/span>We\u2019re<\/span>\u00a0proud to vote \u2018yes\u2019 on a measure that will make our state a more affordable place to live and thrive.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
