(March 23, 2023) \u2014 Following the East Palestine toxic waste transportation incident at the Romulus Deep Injection Well Site, the House Oversight and Ethics Committee held a hearing this morning on oversight of the site.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>At the hearing, the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) announced they would be re-opening the public comment period for the site\u2019s permit for 30 days starting in April and will also be participating in additional public meeting with Environmental Protection Agency and other stakeholders to allow residents to make their voices heard on the topic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>Sen. Darrin Camilleri (D-Trenton), who previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/senatedems.com\/camilleri\/2023\/03\/08\/toxic_waste_concerns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" title=\"https:\/\/senatedems.com\/camilleri\/2023\/03\/08\/toxic_waste_concerns\/\" data-loopstyle=\"link\" id=\"LPNoLPOWALinkPreview_1\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"0\">sent a letter to EGLE<\/a>\u00a0requesting an additional public hearing on the site and testified before the Oversight Committee today, offered the following comment:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"x__Entity x__EType_OWALinkPreview x__EId_OWALinkPreview_1 x__EReadonly_1\"><\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>\u201cThis fight is far from over, but today\u2019s announcement is a great step in the right direction.
