Dear Neighbor,
As we enter a new year, I wanted to recflect on the progress we made in Lansing in 2025 on behald of District 6. While this year in divided government certainly presented new challenges, I am still fighting for our shared priorities:
- Providing Quality Education for All
- Expanding Access to Affordable and Attainable Housing
- Championing Our Communities
- Growing a Healthy Economy for Entrepreneurs and Workers
Our new in-district office opens this month – check our Facebook page for updates! As always, my team and I are here to serve you. If you have questions or would like to share thoughts about pending legislation, requests for our office to attend a community event, or issues with any state government agency, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

A Budget that Puts You First
I am proud to have once again secured funding for important community priorities:
- $1.5M for eviction legal defense through Detroit Right to Counsel
- $1M to support Focus HOPE’s programming
- $1M to Starfish Academy to improve access to child care in Brightmoor
- $800K to Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency for housing support services
- $750K to improve Redford Twp. wastewater infrastructure
- $500K to expand programming at the Detroit Police Athletic League
- $500K to the North Rosedale Park Community House
- $300K to the Brightmoor Connections Food Pantry
I, along with my colleagues, worked on the 2026 budget to deliver on important priorities for Michigan residents, while insulating our state from the most devastating effects of the federal “Big Beautiful Bill.”
Investing in Public Education
- Highest ever per-pupil funding at $10,050
- Increased funding for at-risk support
- Preserved the free school meals program
Protecting Medicaid
- Secures funding for behavioral health, food assistance, and other critical local programs
- Ensures corporations continue to pay their fair share in Michigan
Long-Term Road Funding
- Invests in the local roads you and I drive every day
- Strengthens public transportation infrastructure
Safeguarding Your Priorities
- Working to make housing safe and affordable for all
- Increased public safety initiatives
- Critical services for seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities

Working Hard on What Matters Most
Remaining committed to advancing budget and policy priorities that support residents and communities across the state
Expanding Access to Affordable and Attainable Housing
I passed legislation to give disabled veterans and their surviving spouses a property tax break and ensured that individuals cannot be turned away from rentals based on where their income comes from. I’ll keep fighting to expand housing access and lower rent.
Providing Quality Education for All
I, along with my colleagues, delivered the highest per pupil funding in Michigan history, prioritized equitable funding, and invested in critical before-school and after- school programs.
Growing a Healthy Economy for Entrepreneurs and Workers
I voted to repeal so-called “right to work”, reinstated prevailing wage, and invested millions in workforce development, small business support, and on-the-job training across the state.
Championing Our Communities
I have brought home tens of millions in investments to our communities, from community centers, to fire equipment, to childcare, and much more. I’m focused on expanding investments in community violence initiatives and prioritizing consumer protection laws to combat deceptive business practices.
Community with Cavanagh
I participated in a Gun Violence Prevention listening session in June to discuss the need for appropriate Community Violence Intervention Funding to curb violence in our communities.
My colleagues and I hosted an Immigrant Rights Roundtable to discuss how we are protecting Michigan residents and pushing back against harmful federal immigration policies.
Our youth summit brought together local stakeholders, workforce development organizations, and small businesses to provide vital resources to young people in our community.
