Chang on Whitmer call to protect environment, public health

LANSING — Sen. Stephanie Chang (D–Detroit) has issued the following statement on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s State of the State address, during which she asked lawmakers and state departments to toughen pollution inspections and enforcement procedures to keep Michiganders safe:

“As lawmakers, it is our job to help protect the environment and the public’s health, and that includes holding bad actors accountable for polluting our air and water. I will continue to work hard alongside this administration to advance environmental justice and safeguard Michiganders from toxic chemicals such as PFAS, lead, and toxic air emissions, because no one should have to worry if the water they drink or the air they breathe is making them sick.”

Sen. Chang represents Senate District 1 in Wayne County that includes the cities of Detroit, Ecorse, Gibraltar, River Rouge, Riverview, Trenton, Woodhaven, and Wyandotte, and the townships of Grosse Ile and Brownstown.
