LANSING, Mich. (Sept. 21, 2023) — After the Senate Labor Committee’s passage of Senate Bills 170–171, Committee Chair Sen. John Cherry (D-Flint) has issued the following statement:
“Michigan competitiveness is dependent on retaining and recruiting talent. These bills give back local government’s tools to help retain and attract talent in their communities.”
Senate Bills 170-171 return power back to local governments by repealing legislation that significantly restricts local control when it comes to decision-making on construction projects. This legislation will ultimately make it easier for local governments and the labor force to work together on projects to benefit communities across Michigan.
