LANSING, Mich. (Dec. 4, 2023) — Following last week’s announcement of Ashley Capital and RACER Trust’s completion of the sale of the second phase of development on the former General Motors property known within the community as Buick City, Sen. John Cherry (D-Flint) has issued the following statement:

“I am pleased Flint’s largest brownfield site will have a fresh new start. It has been vacant for many years, and I am grateful my work to uplift this redevelopment project has yielded a positive result. More than anything, I know how important this is to the community and how it will create a host of opportunities for Genesee County residents. From before the groundbreaking ceremony to now, I am extremely proud of the work my team and all the partners have put in to make this happen.”

Sen. John Cherry, along with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley, State Rep. Cynthia Neeley (D-Flint), U.S. Congressman Dan Kildee (D-Flint) and various other community partners, at a Buick City site groundbreaking ceremony on June 5, 2023.
