Flint, Mich. (December 12, 2023) — Senator John Cherry (D-Flint) is pleased to announce the newest additions to his dedicated team serving Senate District 27: Legislative Director Nick Haas and District Manager Myron Henderson.
Sen. Cherry is enthusiastic about the expanded team and believes the combined skills and experience of these individuals will enhance the office’s ability to serve Flint and Genesee County residents effectively.
“Nick and Myron bring valuable expertise and a commitment to public service that aligns with the goals of our office,” said Sen. Cherry. “Their contributions will strengthen our efforts in representing the interests and concerns of Flint and Genesee County residents.”
Nick Haas, a native New Yorker now establishing roots in Michigan, has dedicated himself to public service since 2017. He formerly served as the legislative director for New York State Senators in the western and central regions — focusing on a range of policy areas including workforce development, childcare, emergency services and local government initiatives. In 2022, Haas earned an MPA from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, specializing in public budgeting and policy analysis.
Myron Henderson has a proven track record of community engagement and grassroots organizing, recently serving as a scheduling and advance associate intern for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. A lifelong Flint resident, Myron’s familiarity with the district’s needs and challenges will help ensure effective communication between the Senator’s office and community members. He recently graduated with his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Michigan-Flint and is pursuing a master’s degree in public administration.
This talented team complements Senator Cherry’s existing staff:
- Nicole Derusha-Mackey, chief of staff, oversees the overall operation of the office and strategic planning.
- Qiana Towns-Williams, district director, is responsible for coordinating outreach efforts and ensuring concerns of District 27 community members are heard.
- Jade Koehn, scheduler and administrative assistant, plays a crucial role in maintaining the office’s day-to-day operations.
Sen. Cherry is confident that with this strengthened team, they will continue to address the needs of the community and work towards positive change for the residents of Senate District 27.
