LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Erika Geiss (D-Taylor) has issued the following statement regarding Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Fiscal Year 2020 budget proposal, which includes funding for the MI Opportunity and Michigan Reconnect programs to help ease the cost of post-secondary education.
“I applaud Gov. Whitmer for creating a real plan to address the exorbitant cost of higher education. Our young people should be able to get a degree without being saddled with debt for the rest of their lives. Both the Michigan Reconnect and MI Opportunity proposals are sensible, and sorely needed, programs to help employers fill jobs and students get the skills they need for those jobs without having to spend a fortune. I’m thrilled to see such a commitment from the governor and look forward to working more on these issues as the appropriations process continues.”
