LANSING, Mich. (Feb. 21, 2023) — Sen. Erika Geiss (D-Taylor) issued the following statement on the Southwest Detroit land swap deal that passed Detroit City Council today:

“I am disappointed that residents’ voices were not listened to and concerns were not addressed as City Council approved this deal that sends a core piece of the Hubbard Richard neighborhood to the Maroun family. There are several questions that remain unanswered, and it is especially concerning that this deal will move forward as the future of the Hubbard Richard community hangs in the balance. The goalposts continue to move for residents while the billionaire owners of the Detroit International Bridge Company reap the benefits of a one-sided deal. I will continue to amplify the voices of the residents of Southwest Detroit so they are guaranteed the community benefits they deserve.”
