LANSING, Mich. (Sep. 4, 2024) — Sen. Erika Geiss (D-Taylor) has issued the following statement regarding today’s walkout and strike by workers at Marathon Petroleum’s Detroit refinery:

“As the state Senator representing District 1, I stand in solidarity with the workers on strike at Marathon Petroleum Refinery in Detroit advocating for better wages and improved working conditions,” said Sen. Erika Geiss (D-Taylor).

“It is imperative that we recognize the value and contributions that these workers bring to our community and the economy. Their request for increased compensation and safer working conditions is not only reasonable but just. I urge Marathon Petroleum Refinery in Detroit to continue engaging in meaningful negotiations with the workers on strike to address their concerns. I will continue to fight for justice and support these workers to ensure their voices are heard and their demands are met.”
