LANSING, Mich. (Oct. 25, 2023) — State Senator Erika Geiss (D-Taylor) issued the following statement on sponsoring Senate Bill 608, which is part of the Polluter Pay legislative package (SBs 605-611).
“Polluters harm the public twice-over when they dump hazardous substances and then skip out on cleaning up their messes. We have over 10,000 known ‘orphaned’ sites in Michigan. By requiring industry to carry adequate insurance for potential cleanup costs, Senate Bill 608 will put cleanup responsibilities where they belong, not on taxpayers.”
