(June 10, 2026) \u2014\u00a0This week, Michigan State Sens. <\/span>Darrin Camilleri <\/b>(D-Trenton)<\/span>\u00a0<\/b>and <\/span>Chedrick Greene<\/b>\u00a0(D-Saginaw)\u00a0introduced a sweeping, multi-bill healthcare affordability package aimed at\u00a0completely eliminating\u00a0out-of-pocket costs for three of the\u00a0state\u2019s\u00a0most high-volume, life-saving medical necessities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While federal initiatives and other states have historically relied on price caps (such as capping monthly copays at $25 or $35), this landmark legislation\u00a0establishes\u00a0an aggressive, first-of-its-kind true zero-dollar cost-sharing ($0 out-of-pocket) framework across\u00a0private\u00a0health insurance plans. By\u00a0eliminating\u00a0all deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance requirements, the bills ensure that families will no longer face financial barriers at the pharmacy counter for the medicines they need to survive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cMichigan is drawing a clear line in the sand: if you pay for insurance, you should never be forced to ration your medication just to breathe, manage diabetes, or survive a severe allergic reaction,\u201d said Sen. Camilleri<\/b>.\u00a0\u201cThese life-saving medications need to be covered.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Sen. Camilleri<\/b>\u00a0is sponsoring Senate Bill 1032, which\u00a0establishes\u00a0the nation\u2019s most comprehensive, unrestricted $0 epinephrine mandate. Unlike existing legislation in other states that restricts free\u00a0epinephrine auto-injectors, like EpiPens,\u00a0to minors or caps patients at a single twin-pack per year, Sen. Camilleri<\/b>\u2019s bill provides a universal benefit for every insured resident with no age limits or annual quotas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe came to Lansing to represent regular people, and regular people are hurting,\u201d said Sen.\u00a0Greene<\/b>.\u00a0\u201cWith these bills, we\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0just capping prices, we are\u00a0eliminating\u00a0them and setting a new national standard for consumer-first healthcare.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Concurrently, Sen. Greene<\/b>\u00a0is sponsoring the remaining two bills in the package to tackle respiratory and diabetic care.\u00a0Senate Bill 1033 goes further than almost any other state by creating a total $0 diabetes care ecosystem, eliminating cost-sharing not just for insulin, but for the vital diagnostic hardware needed to administer it, including continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), glucometers, lancets, and test strips.\u00a0Sen.
