DISTRICT UPDATES

It’s been a busy month for our office as we work across the district and in Lansing to represent the interests of the 12th District.

  • March is Reading Month This month, I met with students across Wayne, Macomb, and St. Clair Counties to share the joy of reading with students. Their questions and ideas always assure me that the future of our state is bright.
  • Coffee and Conversations In addition to our coffee hours, chances for informal conversation across our district to hear your thoughts and priorities, I met with other members of the Macomb Delegation in Mt. Clemens this month. Together, we discussed how to create the best future for our region by working across party and city lines.
  • Supporting Those Who Serve As Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Military, Veterans, and State Police, it was an honor to tour the Chesterfield Township Veterans Home this month. I also had the chance to visit the Detroit Arsenal in Warren along with Senator Debbie Stabenow. I am proud to support these critical facilities, which keep our country safe and keep our promise to those who serve.

Tax Season Resources

With taxes due by April 18, I wanted to pass along some resources to assist you in filing your income taxes.

  • Michigan E-File Information has resources for filing your returns electronically. This is the fastest, most secure way to file your taxes and receive a timely return.
  • Treasury eServices: This site allows 24/7 access to real time updates on your return and allows you to submit any questions you may have about taxes directly to the Department of Treasury. If you prefer to discuss these questions over the phone, you can also reach the Department at (517) 636-4486.
  • Free Tax Return Preparation is available at the IRS website for those age 60 and older, people who make less than $60,000 annually, people with disabilities, and residents with limited English-speaking abilities. Please visit the linked site for more information on these programs. To find a local free tax preparer, please visit irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep or dial 211.
  • City Taxes may be applicable to those who work or whose businesses are headquartered in Detroit. This site can help answer your questions and assist with the filing of city taxes.
