Senator Hertel Introduces Legislation to Protect the Legality of Fantasy Sports in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — Senator Curtis Hertel Jr. (D-East Lansing) has introduced a package of bills that will protect the millions of Michiganders who participate in fantasy sports games.
These bills will clarify the legality of fantasy sports in Michigan and institute consumer protections to safeguard players. This legislation will also ensure the legality of “home” leagues. Senate Bills 461 and 462 will offer Michigan players the assurance that they are operating within the law, that contests are being fairly and transparently operated, and that their privacy and security are protected.
“An estimated 1.6 million Michiganders participate in fantasy sports leagues every year,” said Sen. Hertel. “This legislation will ensure that games are fair and players are protected.”
