Hertel Praises Whitmer’s Investment in Local Government

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Curtis Hertel, Jr. (D-East Lansing) has issued the following statement regarding Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s proposed Fiscal Year 2019-20 budget, which includes a 3 percent increase on revenue sharing for local communities.

“Creating a healthy, thriving Michigan starts with funding local municipalities. I’m happy to see Gov. Whitmer commit to increasing funding to local governments that have been dangerously underfunded for the last decade. Whether it’s providing lifesaving services to their residents or cleaning up the downtown district of a city, township or village, our local governments provide the most essential services to our citizens. I remain committed to providing resources to our communities so that they can thrive again.”
