<\/p>\n

<\/i><\/i>LANSING, Mich. (April 21, 2026) \u2014\u00a0Sen.\u00a0<\/span>Kevin Hertel\u00a0<\/span><\/b>(D-St. Clair Shores) and the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military, Veterans, State Police (MVSP) passed their budget proposals this morning, hitting their first significant milestone in the budget process. As Chair, Sen.\u00a0<\/span>Hertel\u00a0<\/span><\/b>worked with his Senate colleagues on key budget proposals, including a $152\u00a0million investment in Selfridge Air National Guard Base.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust as our last several state budgets have included strong support for Selfridge, so too does our\u00a0latest\u00a0budget proposal,\u201d said Sen.\u00a0<\/span>Hertel<\/b>,\u00a0who\u00a0represents\u00a0Selfridge in the Michigan Senate.\u00a0\u201cThe base is a tremendous asset to our community, a major driver of our local\u00a0economy, and a vital pillar of our national defense.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0why I have\u00a0\u2014\u00a0and\u00a0will\u00a0always continue\u00a0\u2014\u00a0to advocate for the resources needed to secure its future and support the brave men and women who serve there.\u201d<\/p>\n

This $152\u00a0million\u00a0investment\u00a0builds\u00a0on\u00a0funding secured by Sen.\u00a0<\/span>Hertel\u00a0<\/span><\/b>in\u00a0previous\u00a0budgets to the tune of\u00a0more than $60 million.\u00a0These funds helped successfully secure\u00a0the promise of a\u00a0<\/span>new fighter mission composed\u00a0of\u00a020\u00a0F-15 EXs<\/u><\/a><\/span>\u00a0and a\u00a0<\/span>KC-46A\u00a0refueling\u00a0mission<\/u><\/a><\/span>, which requires\u00a0the base to undertake a multi-million-dollar\u00a0project to expand and reroute the runway, in addition to\u00a0making\u00a0other infrastructure improvements.\u00a0The resources\u00a0allocated\u00a0in the Senate\u2019s budget proposal would secure the final funds needed to finish the project and ensure the\u00a0timely\u00a0arrival of their new mission assignments\u00a0beginning in\u00a02028.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m committed to getting this project done and done the right way,\u201d added Sen.\u00a0<\/span>Hertel<\/b>. \u201cI hope my colleagues in the House will put politics aside, so we can pass this budget on time and deliver the support Selfridge deserves.\u201d<\/div>\n
