Sen. Hollier on Republican attempts to block environmental reorganization

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Adam Hollier (D–Detroit) today released the following statement after the Michigan Senate Oversight Committee heard testimony from those opposed to Gov. Whitmer’s recent executive order that calls for reorganizing the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) into the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE):

“I’m proud to finally have a governor who is ready to tackle the tough environmental issues that Michigan now faces, and who recognizes the reality of including climate change in these discussions. If we don’t commit to mitigating the effects of climate change and embrace sustainable energy solutions in Michigan, we stand to lose much of the natural beauty that makes Michigan our nation’s greatest state.

“I remain hopeful that my colleagues across the aisle will work together with Gov. Whitmer to put climate change at the heart of government, and commit to upholding the Paris climate principles so that we can better our environment — and better our future.”
