LANSING — Sen. Sean McCann (D-Kalamazoo) has issued the following statement in support of budget supplementals voted on today that would restore funding to the Tuition Grant Program, county jail reimbursements, and an autism intervention pilot project:
“I am pleased the administration and the Legislature were able to come to an agreement to support critical services and programs that are so important to Kalamazoo County and Michigan as a whole. Our children need all the support they can get when it comes to appropriate school funding, health care and more.
“I am also grateful to see funding restored to county jails to keep our communities safe. It is my hope that today’s actions are the start of more work to come to ensure we build a Michigan that can thrive, including fixing our roads and bridges, ensuring safe and accessible drinking water, and investing in our schools.”
The budget supplemental legislation passed by the Senate expects to restore $38 million for the Tuition Grant Program that assists students seeking to build on their educational goals through post-secondary education, $14.8 million to county jail reimbursements, and $350,000 for an autism intervention pilot project.
