LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 12, 2023) — Sen. Sean McCann (D-Kalamazoo) issued the following statement after being sworn into office today to serve in the 102nd Michigan Legislature:
“It is an enormous privilege to begin my second term representing the 19th District in the Michigan Senate,” said Sen. McCann. “I’m ready to build on the progress of the past four years and work with my colleagues to improve the lives of all Michigan residents.”
Sen. McCann will serve on the following committees:
- Energy and Environment, Chair
- Universities and Community Colleges Appropriations Subcommittee, Chair
- Appropriations, Vice Chair
- Regulatory Affairs
- Finance, Insurance, and Consumer Protection
- Transportation and Infrastructure
- Joint Capital Outlay Appropriations Subcommittee
- LEO/MEDC Appropriations Subcommittee
- Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee
Sen. McCann began his public service on the Kalamazoo City Commission in 1999. He was then elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2011, where he served two terms. While serving in the Michigan Senate since 2019, Sen. McCann has been a fierce advocate for safeguarding our water, reforming our elections, and protecting workers’ wages and health.
