LANSING, Mich. (Feb. 28, 2023) — Following the ice storm that occurred last week and the mass power outages throughout lower Michigan, Sen. Sean McCann (D-Kalamazoo), Chair of the Senate Committee on Energy and Environment, issued the following statement:

“With the devastating ice storm across much of lower Michigan, many of our communities were facing power loss. The dedicated linemen and women have been working tirelessly across the state to restore power and we are incredibly grateful for their effort through these difficult conditions. I also want to thank members of communities that opened their doors to keep their neighbors warm, and the countless first responders who have kept us safe.

“It is crucially important to me that we investigate the situation with all of the facts and data collected as we recover from this storm. Once that data is available to us, I am committed to holding hearings in the Senate Committee on Energy and Environment to explore the best possible options to strengthen our grid with our community partners, energy leaders and colleagues in the Michigan Legislature.”
