LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 26, 2023) — Sen. Sean McCann (D-Kalamazoo) issued the following statement in response to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s “State of the State” address on Wednesday evening:
“I know from talking to thousands of residents throughout my district: Michigan’s citizens want lower costs, more supply chain and manufacturing opportunities, equity and personal freedom, and the repeal of archaic laws. The governor shares these priorities, and I look forward to tackling them and more with my colleagues and across the aisle.”
“I was pleased that the governor mentioned the expansion of the Michigan Reconnect program. As the Senate Appropriations Majority Vice Chair and the Chair of the Universities and Community Colleges Appropriations Subcommittee, I believe that its vital to expand the program so that our citizens can benefit from the cutting–edge training programs offered by our community colleges.”
In her speech, Gov. Whitmer laid out her administration’s plans for the coming year. This was the first “State of the State” address delivered in person since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
