Thank you to Governor Gretchen Whitmer for signing my legislation, Senate Bill 366. This law strengthens the Michigan Public Service Commission’s authority to address violations of the Gas Safety Standards, increasing accountability for our natural gas providers and protecting Michigan citizens from harmful incidents. This law will align Michigan with other state’s fining authority and continue our state-level management of natural gas transmission and distribution systems. ... See MoreSee Less

I was unable to attend but wanted to say Thank you for your work to improve the environment through regulation, clean-up, and working towards solutions for cleaner energy. I appreciate your protecting funding for mental health services in schools. I am deeply concerned about the move to lower the age of people allowed to volunteer and work in cannabis operations to 19. I object to the industry trying to set a precedent for this in Michigan. We have more than enough scientific research on the effects of cannabis in youth to show this is a dangerous and unethical proposal. I saw the economic impact report showing no impact and beg you to consider the social costs of lowering the age to 19. This is a move that will exacerbate the issues young adults are experiencing with anxiety and other mental health. We should not be normalizing cannabis use among people under 21. Please take a little more time for education around the impacts this change could have on our youth, their mental health, and our communities.
