LANSING, Mich. (Dec. 20, 2022) — Today, Senate Majority Floor Leader-Elect Sam Singh (D-East Lansing) announced Sen. Jeff Irwin (D-Ann Arbor) and Sen.-Elect Kristen McDonald Rivet as assistant Senate majority floor leaders for the 102nd Legislature that will begin in January. Sen.-Elect Singh also announced his senior staff.
“I’m excited to get underway with the work of the 102nd Michigan Legislature, and to have two extraordinarily knowledgeable and hard-working senators by my side,” Sen.-elect Singh said. “Everyone knows the key to success in elected office is surrounding yourself with good people. Jeff and Kristen are not only good people — they have proven time and again they work nonstop for our residents, who are looking to us to lead with grace and dignity, and to pass legislation to make Michigan a more welcoming, equitable and sustainable place to call home.”
Sen. Irwin will be entering his second term in the Michigan Senate and will represent Senate District 15, which includes parts of Washtenaw, Monroe, and Lenawee counties.
“Voters elected Democrats because they are ready for policies that are in the best interest of working people,” said Sen. Irwin. “I am eager to work with my colleagues to deliver for the people of Michigan.”
Sen.-elect McDonald Rivet will be entering her first term in the Michigan Senate and will represent Senate District 35, which includes parts of Bay, Midland, and Saginaw counties.
“The Michigan Senate Democrats have a unique opportunity in this next term to steer the ship in a way like never before,” said Sen.-elect McDonald Rivet. “I am inspired by this moment and look forward to using it to create a better Michigan for all.”
In addition to announcing assistant floor leaders, Majority Floor Leader-elect Singh also announced the following individuals have joined his senior staff to help serve the Michigan Senate and the residents of Michigan Senate District 28:
- Molly Korn as chief of staff,
- Adam Reames as majority floor director, and
- Kris Young as legislative director.
Korn most recently served as chief of staff to Sen. Mallory McMorrow (D-Royal Oak) for the past four years. Prior to that, she served for then-Rep. Singh during his six years in the Michigan House of Representatives. She brings a decade of experience in state government affairs with her, including exceptional policy analysis, constituent service, media outreach, and more.
Reames served as the Assistant Secretary of the Senate from 2009-2019, and as legislative policy director for Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson from 2020-2022. He has a long history with the Michigan Senate, having worked on Session Staff and Democratic Policy Staff, and has recently led the Senate’s new software development efforts.
Young has been working in and adjacent to state government for the past 20 years, including in the House of Representatives for former Democratic Leader Chris Greig and former House Democratic Floor Leaders Singh, David Rutledge, and Rudy Hobbs. He has also held governmental affairs positions for Plunkett Cooney and AT&T.
“This team brings diverse and storied experience to this job, which is exactly what will be needed for us to hit the ground running in January,” Sen.-Elect Singh said. “Their service to the people of Michigan is exemplary, and their commitment to making our state the best it can be is laudable.”
