LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 25, 2023) — Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-Bay City) has issued the following statement in response to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s “State of the State” address on Wednesday evening:

“The Working Families Tax Credit is a policy I’ve championed for years. I’m proud my colleagues and I, along with the Governor, are moving toward making Michigan a national leader in helping struggling families reach economic stability. Senate Bill 3 raises Michigan’s match of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) from 6 percent to 30 percent, delivering meaningful and immediate relief to Michiganders. It will pump a half a billion dollars into local economies in rural, suburban, and urban communities across our state. It’s no surprise that such an extensive and diverse group of stakeholders support this legislation.”

In her speech, Gov. Whitmer laid out her administration’s plans for the coming year. This was the first “State of the State” address delivered in person since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
