LANSING, Mich. (Jan. 24, 2024) — Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-Bay City) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s “State of the State” address tonight:

“The significant expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit for Working Families and Retirement Tax Repeal got shout-outs tonight because they are great examples of the progress we made on kitchen table issues in 2023 and will continue to make this year.

“This year’s agenda puts the everyday needs of working families at the center. I am looking forward to working with the governor to strengthen child care and education, improve paths to higher paying jobs and increase access to affordable housing. At every turn, my priority is always to lower costs and open opportunities for Michiganders at every stage of their lives.”
