LANSING, Mich. (June 20, 2024) Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-Bay City) attended the Small Business Association of Michigan’s (SBAM) Small Business Summit and Annual Meeting on June 13, 2024, where she was honored as one of SBAM’s legislators of the year. Sen. McDonald Rivet released the following statement after receiving the award:

“It is a great honor to be recognized as a Small Business Association of Michigan Legislator of the Year,” said Sen. McDonald Rivet. “I see the enormous opportunities and value small businesses add to our local communities and state economy. I’ll always look for practical ways to make it easier for Michiganders to get the training, talent and capital they need to start and grow small businesses.”

Praised by SBAM for her intentional efforts to bring everyone to the table on important issues, Sen. McDonald Rivet was recognized for her willingness to listen and collaborate with everyone, and especially for her work on advancing support for child care and quintupling Michigan’s match of the Earned Income Tax Credit from 6% to 30%. Sen. McDonald Rivet’s expanded tax credit is estimated to boost over 700,000 Michigan families’ incomes by an average of $749 each and the state’s economy by $553 million annually.
