20% of Michigan K-5th graders don’t get daily recommended recess time. Since it isn’t considered instruction time, recess is often dropped, under-resourced, or a missed opportunity for valuable learning through child-directed play. We’ve had the pleasure of visiting with staff and young adults from the Saginaw County Youth Protection Council on several occasions this year. They provide in-shelter care, re-housing, parenting, and drug abuse prevention education to youth and young parent-headed families. Our entire community benefits from their efforts to increase self-sufficiency in at-risk children and families. ... See MoreSee Less
